Alice for July gigs

ALICE COOPER is to tour Britain this summer, it was officially announced this week. He will play at least five venues in this country, as part of a full European tour. It will be his first British visit for over 18 months, and the first to feature him as a solo performer.

Alice will be bringing his cur-rent U.S. road show a massive multi-media touring outfit which features special lighting, costumes and scenery, as well as full orchestra and theatrical characters. Because of the lavish nature of the presentation, it is likely that outdoor venues will be sought, with July as the most probable period.

The tour will back up Alice's first solo album "Welcome To My Nightmare", which Anchor are to release in Britain in March, as the outcome of a recently completed deal for world rights to the LP outside of North America. The set is the soundtrack of an hour-long TV special called "Welcome To My Nightmare The Making Of An Album", which has been compiled during the past year by producer Bob Ezrin. Negotiations are now in hand for the special to be networked in this country in April.

REED'S SHOWS

LOU REED is coming to Britain in late March at the tail end of an extensive European tour, and he will be playing just two dates in this country - at Bristol Colston Hall (March 24) and London Hammersmith Odeon (25).

Promoter Harvey Goldsmith told NME that, although Reed is only playing a couple of gigs here on this occasion, he will be returning to Britain in the summer for a longer visit.

The unpredictable Reed will be bringing his new band with him, which surprisingly includes a woodwinds player and a violinist (Martin Fogel and Larry Packer respectively). Rest of the line-up is Doug Yule (guitar), Alan Freedman(guitar), Michael Sucherski (drums) and Bruce Yaw (bass).

Tickets for the Hammer smith concert go on sale this week, but those wishing to book for Bristol are advised to check with the box-office. Support act is String Driven Thing.

Rebel: full itinerary

NINE FURTHER DATES have been added to the British concert tour by Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel in the early spring. Other changes in the initial itinerary reported by NMre three weeks ago are: a change of venue for the Liverpool gig from the Empire to the Stadium; a date switch for Exeter University from March 14 to March 22; and the scrapping of the previously-planned March 26 concert at Preston Guildhall. With the possibil-ity of a few more Rebel concerts still to be announced, their up-to-date schedule comprises:
