THE STORY Issued eight years after Marc Bolan’s passing, The Main Man is a retrospective double-LP celebrating his glam-era peak and late-period maturity. Released by Cambra Records during a renewed mid-’80s interest in Bolan’s legacy, the compilation gathers 18 solid gold tracks from 1972–1977. Its sequencing mirrors Bolan’s creative arc, moving from the glitter-charged stomp of the early ’70s to the reflective tone of his final recordings.

CONTEXT & NOTES Promoted heavily as “THIS IS THE BIG ONE!” and marketed as a “Great DOUBLE album” with 18 SOLID GOLD TRACKS. Promotional adverts included a special offer for a FREE single with purchase. The compilation focuses on key hits and strong album tracks with no unreleased material.
