A stomping, highâenergy glamârock explosion, âDynaâmiteâ became Mudâs breakthrough hit â a swaggering Chinnichap creation packed with hooks, attitude, and irresistible danceâfloor power.
Released on October 5, 1973, the single arrived as Mudâs first major hit under the Chinn & Chapman songwriting/production partnership. Issued by RAK Records under catalogue number RAK 159, the track delivered the duoâs trademark glamâpop formula: pounding rhythm, sharp guitar lines, and a massive singâalong chorus. Backed with âDo It All Over Again,â the release marked the beginning of Mudâs run of midââ70s chart dominance. Entering the UK Singles Chart in midâOctober, it surged into the Top 5 and established Mud as one of the most reliable hitmakers of the glam era.

đ The Story
Before âTiger Feetâ and their later run of No. 1 hits, Mudâs ascent truly began with âDynaâmite.â Written and produced by Chinn & Chapman, the track delivered everything that defined earlyââ70s glam: stomping beats, bold riffs, and a chorus built for maximum impact.
Les Grayâs charismatic vocal delivery, combined with the bandâs tight performance and Chapmanâs polished production, made the single an instant standout. The Bâside, âDo It All Over Again,â offered a more relaxed, melodic contrast, showcasing Mudâs versatility beyond their glamâstomp persona.
Commercially, âDynaâmiteâ was a major breakthrough. Entering the UK charts in midâOctober, it climbed into the Top 5 and set the stage for the bandâs massive success throughout 1974.
