In the autumn of 1967, long before they became known for their glam rock hits, a young band called Mud released their debut single. “Flower Power” was a bright, harmony-rich pop track that perfectly captured the psychedelic summer-of-love vibe of the era.

Released on October 13, 1967, the single appeared on CBS Records under catalogue number 203002. Backed with “You're My Mother,” this 7-inch release marked the very first recording by the band that would later become one of the most successful glam acts of the 1970s.

🔘 The Story

Before adopting their signature glam sound and scoring hits like “Tiger Feet” and “Lonely This Christmas,” Mud were a young beat group experimenting with the prevailing psychedelic pop style. “Flower Power” was a cheerful, harmony-heavy single that embraced the flower-power movement of 1967.

The B-side “You're My Mother” continued the melodic, pop-oriented approach. Although the single received little commercial success, it remains a rare and interesting early artefact from the band’s pre-fame days.
