A stomping, pianoâdriven glamâpop gem, âMy Friend Stanâ showed Slade leaning into a more melodic, goodâhumoured sound while still delivering the bandâs trademark energy and charisma.
Released on September 28, 1973, the single arrived as the followâup to the chartâtopping âSkweeze Me, Pleeze Me.â Issued by Polydor Records under catalogue number 2058 422, the track featured a jaunty, musicâhallâtinged arrangement built around Jim Leaâs piano riff and Noddy Holderâs unmistakable vocal swagger. Backed with âMy Town,â the release continued Sladeâs run of hit singles during their peak glamârock period. Entering the UK Singles Chart in early October, it climbed into the Top 5 and became another major success for the band.

đ The Story
By late 1973, Slade were one of the biggest bands in Britain, scoring hit after hit with their blend of glamârock stomp, singâalong choruses, and workingâclass humour. âMy Friend Stanâ offered a slightly softer, more melodic twist on their formula, driven by Jim Leaâs playful piano line and Noddy Holderâs warm, charismatic vocal.
The trackâs upbeat charm and catchy hook made it an instant favourite with fans. The Bâside, âMy Town,â provided a grittier, guitarâdriven contrast, showcasing the bandâs rockâandâroll backbone beneath the glam sheen.
Commercially, the single was another triumph. Entering the UK charts in early October, it climbed to No. 2 and extended Sladeâs extraordinary run of earlyââ70s hits.
