This exclusive picture disc, released by Demon Records, continues their series of collectible 7-inch picture discs of T. Rex’s 1973 singles. The 2024 edition showcases rare photographs from the Keith Morris archive, making it a must-have for glam rock fans and collectors. The disc features the A-side “Telegram Sam” and two B-sides, “Cadilac” (deliberately spelled this way) and “Baby Strange.” Interestingly, “Cadilac” was not included on The Slider album, adding a unique touch to the single.

Background and Original Release:

“Telegram Sam” first debuted in January 1972 as the lead single under T. Rex’s own T. Rex Wax Co. label. Dedicated to Marc Bolan’s manager, Tony Secunda, the song previewed the band’s iconic album, The Slider, which came out in July 1972. It became T. Rex’s third UK number 1 hit, holding the top spot for two weeks and remaining on the charts for fourteen weeks. It replaced The New Seekers’ “I’d Like To Teach The World To Sing” and was later overtaken by Chicory Tip’s “Son Of My Father.” Regarded as one of Marc Bolan’s signature tracks, it was also famously covered by Bauhaus in 1980.
