đ The Story
Written by the hit-making duo Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman, âAlexander Graham Bellâ was a light-hearted, novelty-tinged track that told the story of the famous inventor in a fun, pop style. The songâs bouncy rhythm and strong chorus were typical of The Sweetâs early sound, blending accessible pop with the emerging energy that would soon define their glam era.
The B-side âSpotlight,â written by the band themselves, offered a more straightforward rock edge. While not as commercially successful as their later 1972 hits, the single helped keep The Sweet in the public eye and built momentum leading into their breakthrough year.
