Lou Reed’s razor‑sharp glam‑rock sneer, produced and arranged by David Bowie and Mick Ronson.

ā€œViciousā€ was released in the UK on March 2, 1973 as a 7" single on RCA Victor (catalogue RCA 2318). The track originally appeared on Reed’s landmark 1972 album Transformer, recorded at Trident Studios in London in August 1972.

The song’s lyrical concept was famously inspired by Andy Warhol, who suggested Reed write a song called ā€œVicious,ā€ adding, ā€œYou know, vicious like I hit you with a flower.ā€ Reed took the suggestion literally, shaping the song’s sarcastic, biting tone.

Produced and arranged by David Bowie and Mick Ronson, the single showcases the glam‑rock swagger that defined Reed’s early 1970s output. Though not a major chart hit in the UK, it became one of Reed’s most recognisable solo tracks and has remained culturally visible for decades, including a notable appearance in Billions (Season 4, Episode 5).
