Released: March 18, 1977 (UK)

Marc Bolan’s final studio album — a late‑period resurgence of clarity, craft, and emotional depth.

Released in March 1977, Dandy in the Underworld marked a striking creative revival for Marc Bolan and T. Rex. After several years of commercial turbulence, Bolan returned with a sharper, more focused sound that blended his glam‑rock instincts with a renewed lyrical seriousness. Recorded across 1976–77 at AIR Studios and Decibel Studios in London, the album features contributions from Dino Dines, Herbie Flowers, Tony Newman, and backing vocals from Gloria Jones.

Critics at the time recognised Dandy as Bolan’s strongest work since Tanx, praising its melodic confidence, tighter arrangements, and emotional candour. Though it did not restore his early‑’70s chart dominance, the album signalled a genuine artistic comeback — one tragically cut short by Bolan’s death six months later.
