Second single from Earthling, Bowieâs drumâandâbassâdriven reinvention.
A highâenergy fusion of jungle, electronica, and arenaârock power, Little Wonder stands as one of Bowieâs boldest lateââ90s singles. Coâwritten with Reeves Gabrels, the track was among the first composed for Earthling and became a defining statement of Bowieâs embrace of contemporary electronic culture.
đ Overview
Little Wonder emerged from a playful, streamâofâconsciousness writing exercise in which Bowie riffed on the names of Snow Whiteâs dwarves â then invented new ones when he ran out. Originally conceived as a nineâminute jungle epic, the track was trimmed to six minutes for the album, blending breakbeats, distorted guitars, and Prodigyâinspired rhythmic aggression.
The single arrived with multiple mixes and formats, supported by a surreal, Floria Sigismondiâdirected video featuring three versions of Bowie in a kinetic, danceâoriented visual style reminiscent of Orbitalâs The Box.
The single reached No. 14 in the UK and topped the charts in Japan, becoming one of Earthlingâs most successful releases.
