In the early months of 1972, Slade were rapidly rising as one of the most exciting and successful bands in the emerging glam rock scene. With their stomping boots, skinhead-to-glam image and raw, working-class energy, the band delivered another high-impact single with ā€œLook Wot You Dun.ā€ The track combined Noddy Holder’s powerful raspy vocals with a driving riff and a massive, singalong chorus that perfectly captured the band’s infectious live energy.

Released on January 28, 1972, the single appeared on Polydor Records under catalogue number 2058 195. Backed with ā€œCandidate,ā€ this 7-inch release marked Slade’s third consecutive UK Top 10 hit and helped build the unstoppable momentum that would see them dominate the charts throughout 1972 and 1973.

šŸ”˜ The Story

By early 1972 Slade had already scored hits with ā€œCoz I Luv Youā€ and ā€œTake Me Bak ’Ome,ā€ and ā€œLook Wot You Dunā€ continued their winning streak. Written by Noddy Holder, Jim Lea and drummer Don Powell (who wrote most of the lyrics), the song was a classic Slade stomper — loud, simple and designed for maximum audience participation. The misspelled title was typical of the band’s playful, phonetic style that connected directly with their young fans.

The B-side ā€œCandidateā€ offered a slower, heavier contrast with its gritty riff and darker tone. Produced by former Animals bassist Chas Chandler, the single maintained Slade’s raw power while adding just enough polish to make it radio-friendly. The release helped solidify Slade’s reputation as one of the hardest-working and most successful glam rock bands of the era.
