- 3 min read
A raucous, swaggering glamârock blast, âPool Hall Richardâ captures Faces at their most loose, loud, and joyously unrestrained â a barâroom riot of guitars, horns, and Rod Stewartâs unmistakable rasp.
Released on November 30, 1973, the single arrived between the albums *Ooh La La* and the bandâs eventual split. Issued by Warner Bros. Records under catalogue number K 16341, the track delivered the bandâs trademark mix of bluesy grit, pubârock energy, and glamâera attitude. Backed with a live version of âI Wish It Would Rain (With a Trumpet),â the release showcased the bandâs raw, goodâtime chemistry. Entering the UK Singles Chart in early December, it climbed into the Top 20 and became one of Facesâ final major hits.

đ The Story
By late 1973, Faces were a band defined by glorious chaos â swaggering rockâandâroll, boozy camaraderie, and a live reputation unmatched by their studio output. âPool Hall Richardâ distilled that spirit into a threeâminute glamârock brawler.
Rod Stewartâs gritty vocal, Ronnie Woodâs slashing guitar, and the bandâs rollicking rhythm section created a track bursting with energy and attitude. The Bâside, a live version of âI Wish It Would Rain (With a Trumpet),â highlighted the bandâs love of soulârock fusion and their ability to turn any stage into a party.
Commercially, the single performed strongly, entering the UK charts in early December and rising into the Top 20. It stands as one of the last great Faces singles before the band dissolved and Stewart and Wood moved fully into their solo careers.
