đ The Story
By 1973, The Sensational Alex Harvey Band had carved out a unique niche in the glamârock landscape â theatrical, gritty, humorous, and defiantly unconventional. Their version of âGiddy Up A Ding Dongâ exemplified this approach, transforming a midââ50s novelty tune into a swaggering, tongueâinâcheek glamârock romp.
Alex Harveyâs charismatic vocal delivery, Zal Cleminsonâs razorâsharp guitar work, and the bandâs tight, dramatic arrangement gave the track a new sense of urgency and attitude. The Bâside, âBuffâs Bar Blues,â leaned into the bandâs love of bluesârock storytelling, offering a smoky, barâroom counterpoint.
Though the single did not chart, it became a fanâfavourite deep cut and an early example of SAHBâs ability to fuse humour, rock power, and theatricality into something unmistakably their own.
