THE STORY
Released on June 12, 1969 on Straight Records, this was one of the Alice Cooper Group’s earliest official singles. Both tracks come from their psychedelic debut album Pretties for You. “Reflected” critiques the superficial glamour of Hollywood with raw, experimental energy. The riff from “Reflected” was later reworked by the band into the hit “Elected” on the 1973 album Billion Dollar Babies. The single also gained exposure when featured in a party scene in the 1970 film Diary of a Mad Housewife.
CONTEXT & NOTES
This release captures the Alice Cooper Group in their early experimental psychedelic phase before they fully embraced their shock rock persona. The bright yellow Straight Records labels with purple text are distinctive. The single did not chart but remains an important document of the band’s formative years under Frank Zappa’s influence.
