Mott The Hoople (October 23, 2026) – Brain Capers (Rhino Reserve) Album: LP

2 min read

BACKGROUND

Originally regarded as one of Mott The Hoople's most uncompromising recordings, Brain Capers captures the band at its most aggressive and direct. Often described as the group's rawest album, it favours hard-hitting rock arrangements, abrasive guitar work and Ian Hunter's distinctive vocal delivery.

Released during a turbulent period in the band's history, the album reflects a sense of urgency and tension throughout its performances. Combining forceful riffs with sharp songwriting and moments of vulnerability, Brain Capers has become a cult favourite within the Mott The Hoople catalogue.

For Rocktober 2026, the album returns as part of the Rhino Reserve series.

STYLE & THEMES

The album presents a heavier and darker side of Mott The Hoople's sound, stripping away much of the polish associated with later releases.

Its combination of hard-driving rock, powerful guitar work and emotionally charged performances has made it one of the band's most highly regarded underground releases.
