FEATURED RELEASE

The Sensational Alex Harvey Band – Framed (1LP)

Originally released in 1972, Framed introduced audiences to one of Britain's most distinctive and theatrical rock groups. The album established the adventurous musical approach that would become synonymous with The Sensational Alex Harvey Band throughout the decade.

Blending hard rock, blues, vaudeville and music hall influences, the record showcases the band's willingness to defy convention. The album moves from the swagger of the title track through to the powerful Midnight Moses, the expansive Isobel Goudie, and the dramatic closing statement St. Anthony.

At the centre of the recording is Alex Harvey's commanding vocal performance, supported by the exceptional musicianship of:

• Zal Cleminson• Hugh McKenna• Chris Glen• Ted McKenna

Together, the group created a debut album that remains inventive, powerful and uniquely identifiable more than five decades after its original release.

PRODUCTION & PACKAGING

Produced by the band at Morgan Studios, Framed is regarded as a landmark debut release. The 2026 National Album Day edition faithfully recreates the album's original gatefold presentation, including the distinctive die-cut "frame" sleeve design which reveals the famous image of Alex Harvey positioned behind bars within the inner artwork.

The reproduction preserves one of the album's most memorable visual elements while celebrating a recording that continues to hold an important place in British rock history.

SIGNIFICANCE

The inclusion of Framed within the National Album Day 2026 campaign reflects the year's ‘Icons’ theme, recognising albums whose influence extends beyond their original era. More than fifty years after its release, the album remains a defining statement from one of the most original bands to emerge from the British rock scene of the 1970s.
