THE STORY The song was written by Slade’s lead vocalist Noddy Holder and bassist Jim Lea, the band’s primary songwriting duo. It was produced by Chas Chandler. Jim Lea was inspired to write the song after observing a pianist named Reg Kierle perform in a pub, collaborating with Holder to complete it.
