THE STORY 

Released on June 13, 1973, “Skweeze Me, Pleeze Me” became Slade’s fifth UK No.1 single, entering the chart at the top spot. Written by Holder and Lea, the song features the band’s trademark stomping beat and massive sing-along chorus. The B-side “Kill ’Em At The Hot Club Tonite” is a high-energy rock ’n’ roll number. The single sold 300,000 copies in its first week in the UK.

CONTEXT & NOTES 

This release came during Slade’s commercial peak. It was their second consecutive single to enter the UK chart at No.1. The Italian pressing did not chart locally but was part of Polydor’s wide international campaign. The single was certified UK Silver by the BPI in July 1973.
