THE STORY

Like the previous album, it was only released in the UK originally on 26 April 1974, but five songs later appeared on the US version of Desolation Boulevard. This edition featured a different cover image.

CONTEXT & NOTES

Sweet Fanny Adams reached No. 27 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 2 in West Germany. It is considered a pivotal release bridging their early pop hits with later hard rock works. The album has elements of psychedelia, with “Set Me Free” being a proto-speed metal song and “Sweet F.A.” foreshadowing punk rock. It features compressed high-pitched backing vocal harmonies that continued on all subsequent Sweet albums. Not available on streaming services in most regions.

LEGACY

The late 1980s glam metal band Sweet F.A. named themselves after the song. English rock group Love and Rockets titled their 1996 album Sweet F.A. “AC-DC” was covered by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts (2006) and Vince Neil (2010). “Set Me Free” was covered by Saxon (1984).
