THE STORY 

Jeff Lynne first wrote and demoed "10538 Overture" in his family home in Birmingham. The song was initially intended to be a B-side for one of the Move's singles. After recording the backing track, Roy Wood overdubbed cello parts, creating the sound that became the blueprint for the band's early work. The song is a midtempo hard rock track with influences from psychedelic music, featuring cello instrumentation and lyrics about an escaped prisoner.
