THE STORY

Released on June 12, 1970, this was one of The Sweet’s earliest singles on Parlophone. “Get On The Line” is a Jeff Barry composition in the band’s early bubblegum/pop style, while the B-side “Mr. McGallagher” was written by Mick Stewart. This release came during the band’s transition period before they fully embraced the glam rock sound that would bring them major success in 1971–1973.

CONTEXT & NOTES

This single did not chart significantly but is an important early artifact of The Sweet’s career under producer Phil Wainman’s early influence (via Burgess/Easterby). The black Parlophone labels with silver text are standard for the era. The band was still finding its identity at this stage, releasing pop-oriented material before their breakthrough hits like “Funny Funny” and “Co-Co”.
