THE STORY Slade’s high-energy version of “Get Down and Get with It” became the band’s first UK chart hit, reaching No.16 and spending 14 weeks on the chart. It marked their breakthrough into the glam rock era and the beginning of their long run of success.

CONTEXT & NOTES After the commercial disappointment of their 1970 album Play It Loud, manager Chas Chandler encouraged the band to capture their powerful live sound on record. The song had long been a crowd favourite in their live set. Recorded in one take at Olympic Studios with foot-stomping and hand-clapping, it perfectly translated their stage energy.
